I really don't think Slowdive (one of my favorite bands of all time, right up there with Joy Division, Autechre, Stereolab and Aphex) are just a "crappy shoegazer band." Granted, "Just for a Day" may not have been the most original album, but they've had excellent collaborations with both Eno and Reload. Not to mention their masterpiece "Pygmalion" which is an obvious influence to the likes of Flying Saucer Attack, Labradford, Low and the like. For those who care, Slowdive's latest incarnation Mojave 3 just released an album produced Mark Van Hoen (aka Locust). -Mike

okay, maybe Slowdive weren't the worst of the 'crappy shoegazer bands' :) - I even liked some of their tracks. But the albums used to really drag on.. :)

The Reload thing was just a case of them remixing one of slowdive's tracks wasn't it? - unless there was some other collaborative piece?

I've got the first Mojave 3 album and by sheer coinincidence popped it on last night to check whether my feelings had changed toward it. They hadn't. Although some of it is good in a slow, minimal, dreamy sort of way, there isn't enough variation - one song sounding like another - and there are frequent lapses into sounding dreary. I'm interested in how the new one sounds though, it's been a while since the last came out (was it 1995?). Nick
